Brainerd MN

Brainerd Minnesota Lakes area is a regional shopping, industrial, and tourism center. There are many nearby resorts that take advantage of the many nearby lakes including Gull Lake. The Mississippi River flows right through Brainerd with five road/highway bridges and one railroad bridge crossing it. There is also the Paul Bunyan Trail, a bowling alley in Brainerd, Movie theater in Baxter, Amusement Parks in area. Brainerd is also home to one of the Central Lakes College campuses. Fire at North Star Apartments

There was a fire at about 5am Friday July 5th on 12th floor lobby of North Star Apartments. Suspected arson. The suspect was caught on security camera and is in custody. The sprinkler put the fire out, however it caused water damage to every floor of the 12 story building. Damage is estimated to cost at least $100,000 according to Jennifer Bergman(reported by Brainerd Dispatch) The elevators were also temporarily down.

Kayak in Mississippi river in Brainerd Minnesota picked up by rescuers in a hover craft.
The "Brainerd Dispatch" reported that a 23 year old woman came safely to shore on her own and was treated and released from Essentia St. Joseph's Medical Center
